Intricacy is found all over our home planet. In complex organisms, we see the intricacy of how the organisms are created and how they live. Not only on earth do we see intricacy, but in the universe as well! In our solar system, if planet earth was miles from where it is now, life would be impossible.
BUT...there is another level of intricacy.
You guessed it (the title gives it away) intricacy on the atomic scale.
If you think about it, atoms are so small that we only think about them in our science classes. They seem so unimportant. In reality, they are complex, amazing, objects created by our all-powerful creator!
I assume that most of ya'll know the components of an atom: protons, neutrons, and electrons. But...in case you are clueless, I'll briefly tell you about them (if you don't want to read the intro on atoms, feel free to skip the section and head to the good stuff!).
If you've ever seen the periodic table of elements, (which you probably have) you will notice the symbol for the elements. Also, you will notice a number above the symbol. That is how many protons there are in an atom. There are the same number of electrons as protons. Protons have a positive charge and electrons have a negative charge. This is important to remember!
Neutrons (as you may have guessed) are neutral and have no charge. The neutrons and protons crunch together to form the nucleus of the atom. Another good thing to know is positive charges repel positive charges (which is the same with electrons). But, positive and negative charges attract each other (and vice-versa).
So...what is so "intricate" about super small atoms, that most people can't observe? Remember I told you that like-charges repel? Think about it. Well, in the nucleus, I said that the protons and neutrons are tightly packed together. All the protons are tightly packed together even though they repel each other!
The force that keeps the atom together is called the Strong Nuclear Force. God designed atoms in a very precise and special way. In science, we have the opportunity to explore his amazing creation.
How could a random process somehow create this miniscule force which holds together our world? It can't. What could? An intelligent agent. As Christ followers, we know this intelligent agent is God.
