Remember our little story from the previous article? If not, you can find it here.
The point of the last story was to show that there was present information and that the physical appearance of it didn't convey any information.
Now we're going to talk about another point we can take out of this story.
What's so special about letters? Language? Scripts? Codes? Anything of the sort? It takes something physical and attaches a permanent, purely unphysical meaning. Come to think of it, meaning isn't physical either.
I will quote one of my favorite Intelligent Design proponents, Douglas Axe:
"Nothing clever comes from something stupid."
This is the simple way to explain how ocean waves crashing against the beach and rolling back cannot form information. It's just a common intuition (also discussed further in Douglas Axe's book, Undeniable) that we can't get something clever, or information, from something random, or un-purposed.
One last point I would like to mention is purpose. I believe one of the reasons that clever can't come from stupid is that anything random doesn't have a purpose. Purpose is lacking in random occurrences, it's impossible for something intricate, complex, or information to arise.
I will be discussing this group of topics deeper in a new series I will be doing soon...... fine sneak peak: nah.
Thanks for reading and I will see you next time!
